Threads overtake ChatGPT as the fastest-growing online platform in history

Meta's new blogging platform, Threads, has overtaken popular chatbot ChatGPT to become the fastest-growing internet platform in history.

And the CEO of Meta (Mark Zuckerberg) announced today, Monday, that the number of subscriptions to (Threads) has reached more than 100 million since its launch last week.

Threads were launched last Wednesday, and today Zuckerberg said in a post: “Thirds reached 100 million subscriptions over the weekend.”

Zuckerberg stressed that these subscriptions are genuine and have been verified, although the company has not launched many promotional campaigns yet. "I can't believe this happened in just 5 days!" he said.

It took (ChatGPT) about two months to reach this number of users, and estimates published in early February indicated that the chatbot (ChatGPT) of the artificial intelligence research company (OpenAI) OpenAI achieved more than 100 million monthly active users in January, just two months after its launch.

Reasons why you might avoid subscribing to Threads

"After 20 years of tracking the Internet space, we cannot recall a faster rise in the category of consumer Internet applications," UBS analysts, which published the report at the time, wrote in the study note.

By comparison, it took the TikTok app about 9 months after its global launch to reach 100 million users, while Instagram took one to two years, according to data from Sensor Tower.

Threads has set records for user growth since its launch on Wednesday, with celebrities, politicians, and other newsmakers joining the platform, which analysts see as the first serious threat to billionaire Elon Musk's Twitter.

However, (Threads) needs more than double the current number to outperform Twitter, as the latter announced last July about 240 million daily active users from whom it can be monetized.

Musk responded to Meta's success by threatening to sue Meta, and his attorney (Alex Spiro) wrote a letter to Meta accusing the company of "unlawful misappropriation" of trade secrets.
